Improv being less cool is somewhat exciting as someone who felt like improv was so cool, and I needed to be cool when I started studying at UCB in 2015. I'm not sure that helps performers who see improv as a career launchpad per se, but I definitely think it can make improv more fun.

Secondly, I hope more and more people embrace "A rising tide raises all boats." My first great boss in this industry felt the same way, and it made SUCH a big impression on me.

I’d love to hear what makes theUCB/ LA stage such a great space, what choices have paid off, and maybe even what was a waste of investment , etc. It’s hard to find good photos of the whole space online. We just closed on funding for our expansion to build our dream theater, and it would be great to hear more information about what makes the perfect Improv stage in your opinion.

Just a thought-- if you don't live in the area, watch a live stream show for $10 and see for yourself why the parameters outlined in this article work in UCB's favor on their main stage in LA.

I used to love seeing improv in Manhattan in the early/mid 1990s. The improv groups were in small places, with raked seating that felt cramped, but it was a small group of niche players back then.

I'm looking forward to seeing this Friday's live stream show at 8 pm from UCB/LA. The main stage does look conducive to improv.

I don't care if the people are famous, as long as they're good; no one was yet famous back from '94 - '96 in Manhattan, but everyone I knew in the business (young actors/ photographers) used to go see them.

In closing, I would highly suggest taking in a live stream if you're unable to go to the physical UCB theater yourself, which I am 100% unable to do.

This is a wonderful breakdown and very cool to read now that I am out of LA.

I'd love to see some of the best teams, veterans and newbies, do the festival circuit. Edinburgh Fringe, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and more. Improv festivals are obviously awesome too, but I would love to see more general comedy fans get to see truly upper tier improv.

I'd also love a UCB in Melbourne. But that's pipe dreams :)
